First impression of the CR-48:
Basically seems pretty good for a netbook. (Especially Free)
KEYBOARD: The keyboard is nice and keys feel decent, but the lettering on the keys SUCKS big time! It assumes everyone is a natural touch typist, In anything but good lighting they are close to unreadable, so much key-top so little letters. Are we still in grade school that we have to have lower case letters too???
TOUCHPAD: Altho I have not worked much with touchpads this one is plenty big enough for fat hammy fingers, nice that it also is clickable. To me mine is overly sensitive no matter where I set the sensitivity slider I still get mistaken clicks, people might find it hard to get use to.
SCREEN: The screen is a nice size(12") and has good rendering, colors, fonts and resolution. This is as small as I would consider for my worn-out old eyes...LOL!
NETWORKING: Works good, nice that it's N and not just B/G. That it also has 3G capabilities is a very nice plus. Minus, you have to give Verizon your credit card number to use the Google provided free 100mb a month, I have serious reservations about this! It's already paid for and cuts off when you reach limit!
WEBCAM: Works as good as any other built-in one I've experienced so far, they either give you a decent picture or they don't... This one is pretty decent.
MIC: Works without too much distortion, doesn't seem too finicky.
BATTERY LIFE: Battery life is good, I've gotten a full 8 hrs out of mine before needing to recharge.
EXTERNAL PORTS: Ports are just ok, standard VGA out, 1 USB(needs min of 2), SD card, nice to have nowadays, Headset jack(must have). Unfortunately I can't say much about the USB & SD card ports(fault of the OS, no indicators when plugged in, accessible???)
GENERAL: Overall seem to work well for the designed purpose, processor has enough speed/power, there is enough ram(memory)for the purpose, the SSD is awesome to have over a standard hard disc, FAST !!! Could it be better, of course, any test platform can and usually is later.

Chrome OS:
I've been playing with the operating system for about a week now and have to say as it stands it will confuse the average user. It's based on the concept of cloud computing, ie: no installed applications you would usually expect, not even a file browser, basically at this point in time it's just a web browser(Google Chrome). The lack of a file browser is of considerable importance in that you cannot transfer files to/from a thumb drive(usb) or SD card which the netbook has slots for(there is a way but the average user is not going to use it). Being a beta(testing) build I guess we are just going to have to wait and see where Google's Developers take it. My recommendations are: a simple file browser, text/notepad, media player, as there are times when you can't or don't want to be connected to the web. These should be very intuitive simple applications able to perform on/offline.
